SUMMER BLOCKBUSTERS

The Summer Movie Season is halfway over and I have had the pleasure in taking in a few of the summer blockbusters . The first big summer movie this year was Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr. and it did not disappoint me at all . Iron Man was fun, exciting well written and stuck very true to the Iron Man I knew and loved from the comic book's as a kid You may still be able to find it at a theatre or too and if so get there and see it . What a great cast Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard and Jeff Bridges . Some of the CGI was the best I have ever seen .

Now the next flick I caught was also of the super hero ilk and that was The Incredible Hulk starring one of my favorite actors as Dr. Bruce Banner, Edward Norton . I really enjoyed this movie alot . Some people come to me and say well but that hulk looks so fake . Let me put this in perspective for those who join that opinion . The Hulk from the comic book is about 8 feet tall over one thousand pounds and green . Tell me when you have seen one of those walking around that look real. The story was great and reminded me of the TV show alot and I highly recommend it .

Now if I am a studio and I want summer blockbuster success what actor would I hire . Well how about this guy named Will Smith . The Fresh Prince has scored summer hit's with I,Robot 345 million , Bad Boys II 278 million, Men In Black II 440 million, Min In Black 580 million, Indepedance Day wait for it .......816 million , So let's just say Mr. Smith = Big Dollars and his 2008 Blockbuster Hancock did not disappoint either bringing in over 500 million to date . I enjoyed the flick it was a little darker than expected and some cool twists that were not expected as well . That's it for the first edition of Summer Blockbust reviews . Monday after I see it for the third time (this time in IMAX) I will do the blockbuster that deserves a page all to it itself The Dark Knight Returns .

KISS THE CHEESE

I have never been a huge KISS fan admittedly but, I enjoy a few of their song's none the less. The other day while engaging in one of my favorite activities looking at cheesy video's on youtube.com I noticed a startling revelation KISS may be the only band that could actually get this, become cheesier by taking the make up off. It's true my friend's damn true. Look at this photo to the right cheesy right but look at this album cover right here without the trademark make up KISS actually looks cheesier than before look at the pose which they use especially the one whith an almost Baron Von Raschke Iron Claw type maneuver it is a ridiculous album cover . I am an expert on cheese I guarantee you I know what I am talking about from cheddar to the Damn Yankees video I posted below for all of you to see (featuring the Nuge with a laser blaster/guitar saving the day) and Kiss might be the cheesiest band of all time I kid you not with or without make up believe me I took into consideration Poison, Cinderella, Winger and Limp Bizkit (I hope I incorrectly spelled Bizkit correctly)but, Kiss Takes the cake and most likely make's the cake (I mean an actual cake as well as money these guy's sell everything from coffins to wine look here) I am going to post another Kiss video just to show you without a doubt so look at the next post and feel the cheese.

CENSOR EVERYBODY !

Censorship is a touchy subject. Some people are for some against and there seems to be no middle ground on who, what and when to censor if at all. It may come as no surprise to many of you that I am dead set against censorship in way shape or form . Let's take a look at the first amendment "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." So there it would seem that we are free to speak our mind's as we feel the need let's look further though there is an obscenity clause in the first amendment because we know that people will keep adding to them to fit their own agenda's so that is where you get the Miller Test which is a test to determine if something is obscene without any artistic , literary, political or scientific value . Now recently video game's have come under attack as being too violent or the language to profane . Most notably The Grand Theft Auto series released by Rock Star Games is one of the most scrutinized . I am a gamer (a video game player ) and have been since I owned an Atari and was running around playing Pitfall and Donkey Kong as a child . I do see artistic value in games the graphics alone are some of the most amazingly detailed pieces of art you can see on a screen . Jack Thompson an attorney from Florida has made a name for himself by trying to take the first amendment away from people since the early 80's . Read the wikipedia link to his bio and you will see what I am talking about. The Florida bar is trying to take his Rights away right now for inappropriate conduct . Jack is now launching a full scale war against against violence in video games and movies he has been involved in suits against them most notably The Heath High School Shooting in which 14 year old Michael Carneal opened fire on a group of praying students killing three and injuring 5 others . Mr. Thompson filed a 33 million dollar suit against two Internet pornography site's, several video game company's and the maker's and distributors of the movie "The Basketball Diaries" (which I highly recommend you see it is excellent and I shot no one after watching it either) the case was dismissed as it should have been because you know what the said watching someone shoot a class mate on the screen does not take away from the fact that is in an actor and not real . I have played many violent games, watched Scarface, Goodfellas and countless other violent movie's, I have listened to Slayer, N.W.A , and a million other artists with questionable lyrics , I listened to Howard Stern since I was about 15 and you know what Mr. Thompson I have never shot, raped or killed anyone as a matter of fact I lead a pretty normal life . You know why I lead a normal life because I know all of that is not real I loved Ric Flair (OK still do) when I was a kid and you know what I never thought pile driving my cousin onto the concrete sidewalk was a good idea because he would look like Ric does on the right(not that I didn't slap the figure four on him once or twice though WOOOOO !!!!!) My point is though, my mom taught me right from wrong and I knew better so instead of blaming game maker's and movie company's and radio show jock's how about we look at the parent's that are not watching a 14 year old kid collect an arsenal enough to kill his classmates . I am a parent and I know when one toy of my son's is out of place let alone if he bought a pump handle shot gun to class . So parents watch your kid's check out what they are into and make sure they know reality from entertainment . One last not Mom thanks for raising me to know right from wrong and even if you hated me watching and listening to certain thing's knowing that I would make the right choice and not pile drive Ronnie into the pavement . GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Sorry about the lack of updates since last week but, My uncle died last week and in some way's I wasn't up to it and had running around to do . I'm with you today and this writing is going to be more personal than musical It's aqbout losing loved one's and important people in your life . As some of you may know I never really had my father in my life when I was young but, in a way it helped shape me to be a better person in the long run . You see I had six great uncles and one great step dad so I had seven father's all with different experiences, thought's and view's to learn from . I'm not saying I understood it all in the beginning but, in the long run I took a little from each of them . The mistake's they made and the thing's that they did right . Uncle Jim taught me about music and comic's and art . Uncle Ron took me to see wrestling and made sure my mom and Aunt Deb did not dress me like a girl ( He also took care of me alot later when I got in alot of trouble) . Uncle Mike taught me how to play sports shoot a jumper, throw a baseball and picked on me alot . Uncle Tom and Uncle Jack showed me what it was like to be tough but still have a good heart . Uncle Mickey took me fishing and watched me alot and treated me like a third son . Than my step dad who took alot of crap from me as a kid and he made it through alright and I like to think I did to . My step dad also taught me how to be a good guy and take care of your family no matter what . Alot of people will use not having a father as a crutch as to why life sucks or poor me I don't have a dad and I have before too but, you keep doing that you may miss all the gift's you did get in life . My Uncle Jack was buried at sea as a navy veteran . He was sixty five years old . It has been a few years since I saw him but, I will alway's remember him and my other dad's for what they taught me . Rest In Peace Uncle Jack you will be missed .

Wow can you believe it ? I mean celebrity sex tapes get released often in the past few years alone we have seen Paris, Britney, Colin Farrell and countless other's but, allegedly there is a tape starring the greatest guitar player of all time Jimi Hendrix in all his glory . LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Vivid Entertainment is releasing a sex tape allegedly starring Jimi Hendrix.

A biographer of Jimi Hendrix says he's seen the film and doubts the man in it is the late guitarist.

The Los Angeles-based adult entertainment company said they obtained the sex tape from a memorabilia collector.
The 11 minutes of footage, reportedly shot in a hotel room about 40 years ago, features Hendrix -- or someone who looks like him -- engaged in various sexual acts with two women. (READ MORE)

What does Jason Lee have to do with Orbit Rock you ask ? Well nothing really but, it is my blog and I'll write about what I want to . If you take a step back (go ahead) Jason's hit comedy " My Name Is Earl" on NBC has everything to do with classic rock music though . Jason's character Earl would be right at home drinking a Budweiser listening to "Slow Ride" in the trailer park . As a matter of fact alot of the music featured on "Earl " is of the classic rock variety so check out a full list of songs by clicking (HERE) . The show not only feature's great music while being hilarious in Earl's ongoing quest to appease karma by crossing off wrong doing's on his list (Earl's List) it also has a message which is simple enough "Do good thing's and good thing's will happen to you " I like to think that is true to so kudos to this surprisingly hit comedy from Jason Lee and NBC for putting something on the television like this because it is risky . Imagine ten years ago when Friend's and Seinfeld ruled the your "Must See TV" . Never in a million year's would we imagine a show cast with a trailer trash hero, a dumb brother (Ethan Suplee) , the red necks ex wife (played perfectly by Jaime Pressley), The hottest cleaning lady on TV, Catalina (Nadine Velazquez) just in case you don't believe me here she is . See I told you . That comes to my original reason for writing this blog , I was going to start featuring women that I thought were ridiculously good looking once in awhile and I started thinking about two Nadine being one of them and my all time favorite woman Alyssa Milano . Which brings me to the fact that both of them are on "My Name is Earl" which is not to say there are not other women my god Jaime Pressley herself deserves a week on Rich's list. I am including picture's of all three of them just because I love all of you . All in all this is great show and should be put on all of your list's to watch from here on out . VELVET REVOLVER AND YOU !?

Velvet Revolver is looking for a new singer since Scott Weiland up and left his boy's holding the proverbial mic in theirs hand's without a front man . We all have suggestions mine is this guy pictured to the right . He was pretty good the last time those guy's played together. OK, OK I'll stop turning this into a Gun's blog only . I seem to be able to interject them into almost all blogs . So if no the aforementioned guy to the right, than who ? Well in all honesty maybe you . Yes The have advertised online for a singer if you have the chops and are insane as it seems to be a prerequisite to work with these guy's check it out this article on andpop.com . So you ask don't they have show's left to fill ? Yes and here is a quote from Slash ,"I'm not gonna name any names, but a bunch of well-known people will get up and sing some songs, and then also bring up a couple people that we think are pretty good and might sing a couple songs," Slash said. "So it'd just be for fun." That sound's cool who could it be if not Axl (let me wipe my eye a bit ) I have a few suggestions
1. Ronnie James Dio - just because that would be the best to see the ride the tiger .
2. Lemmy - Lemmy is god and don't you forget it !
3. Don Henly - hahaha I just wanted to type that sorry
4. Chris Cornell - His super group just split up did they not ?
OK well we all know that that list is ridiculous with the exception of Cornell none of that is working . You know what though there is only on possible solution and we all know who it is . Sadly though ego's will never allow that to happen although we know that in the grand scheme of thing's the money they would make might be able to make it happen . Please for the 16 year old boy in me just do it .

MOTLEY CRUE TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM

Motley Crue is back at it . A Tour entitled Cruefest (with Buckcherry,Papa Roach and Trapt), a new single the title track of the new album "Saint's of Los Angeles" is released first on the video game Rock Band and what does it all mean ? I enjoyed Motley Crue when I was a kid in the 80's and when I am visiting my local gentleman's establishment nothing brings me greater joy than to hear the opening motorcycle sound's of " Girl's, Girl's, Girl's " the title track of the Crue's 1987 album, while handing out singles to girl's working their way through college . I recently read the appropriately named biography of the band "The Dirt" It is one of the best Rock bio's to read and you should buy it now (Buy The Dirt ) but, am I excited about the return of the Crue ? Not particularly . Why? You ask. Let me count the reason's . One I heard the new single and while it is not much different than any older Crue song's it does not excite me as much as older Crue song's because well it's not different and I am . I am older and when old band's release new material most of the time they forget that the people that cared about them and what they stood for ( in the Crue's case sex, drug's, and rock and roll ) care about different thing's now and while we may like to reminisce while listening to older Crue we could care less about new Crue . Reason number two I really hope this does not mean every awful Glam Metal, Hair Metal or whatever you choose to call that bastardization of rock music in the 80's decide's this is a good idea. The last thing I want to hear is Bret Michaels decide's to release a new Poison album . CC Deville was ugly in 1986 with makeup can you imagine seeing him now ? Here is a picture to remind you just in case you forgot . Where is Axl when you need him did he not send all this garbage out the door back in the day . This is when the break up of Velvet Revolver and return of Stone Temple Pilot's become's even more important because Axl can save us once again from the impending doom that is the return of Warrant, Winger and Poison by just making up with Slash and the boy's and returning to the top where they belong . So it all come's back to the the Crue though and here is my final point by reading "The Dirt" which was awesome I realized there is not a band I could care about less while still liking them if you get what I mean . I dig some of the old music but, I care nothing about them besides maybe Nikki who seem's like a good dude . So in ending CC please don't pick up that guitar and talk to me .

STP ANNOUNCE 65 DATE'S

Call me skeptical but, Stone Temple Pilot's have announced 65 dates in the US during 2008 as a reunion tour. I have seen this band live and they put on a great show and Scott when sober is one of the most charismatic frontmen going . I just have my doubt's as to whether he can pull it off without relapsing . Here is hoping they do do and you all get to see what a good live band they are . How Long did we think this could last ? I predicted early on this tour would be shortlived and I was right it lasted a little longer than I thought but, it's all over now Van Halen has postponed the rest of the tour . My guess it will never start again . Now I will just hold my breath until Axl releases Chinese Democracy !

THE POLICE FINAL TOUR !

The Police reunion tour will make one more trip through North America this summer before the band calls it quits again. As opposed to last year, the group will stick to amphitheaters and arenas without any any stadium or festival stops during the thirty-odd date trek in May and July (with a fifteen date run in Europe sandwiched into June). MORE ZEP REUNION NEWS

Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page announced at a press conference early this morning in Tokyo that if the band were to reunite for a large-scale tour, it wouldn’t happen until at least September. Page, who was in Japan promoting Mothership, cited previous commitments, most notably Robert Plant’s joint tour with Alison Krauss, as the main stalling point, saying, “Robert Plant also had a parallel project running and he’s really busy with that project, certainly until September, so I can’t give you any news.” (READ MORE)
